You always met the top guys in an MLM one way or another. Whether they appeared on a three-way call, or dropped you a motivating email, they are there to say “this is possible.” But, how exactly do they make the money they make? You’ve also seen the push to recruit 30 people a day, and the many leaders who claim they do it too. But, how do they do it?

I’m here to say that becoming a leader is not an overnight adventure. Like any goodbusiness, there is preparation that must be done. For some, it may be faster because the money is there to pay others to prepare for you. For others, it is a slower process. I am here to say preparation is essential, but so is patience. To be a leader, one must have the charisma and tools in place to attract a following.

1.  Develop A USP For Yourself

Leaders know how to sell themselves. It is about their charisma as much as their success. Why do we follow them? Because they portray an air of confidence that they know what they are doing. Many are experienced MLM entrepreneurs and truly have a hand up on the competition. But, that shouldn’t stop you. Start by recognizing what makes you unique and sell yourself as a proposition to others.

2.  Take Time To Prepare

Focusing on the how in MLM is less important than putting a system into place that works for you. This system must be something you can duplicate or replicate, or at the least be automatic in its operation. The best way to know what to build and how to market it, is to study your “competition”, or better yet, the market in which you serve. What is your product and its USP? What is the USP for your particular MLM business? Take time to jot down some notes on why what you are selling, whether product or opportunity, is going to add value to people’s live.

3.  E-Socialize With Leaders

In today’s world of MLM, much of the recruiting process is either entirely online, or coordinated online. This gives you great access from the comfort of your home to those that have gone before you. Before simply being a follower and duplicating what your upline does, study them. Study their tools, processes, communications and find them on social media. Network with a few good leaders, inside and outside your particular network marketing company.

4.  Find A Mentor Or Coach

The first step in really throwing off the cloak of procrastination is to find inspiration and motivation in someone not afraid to make you better than even themselves. A mentor is an accountability partner, and a cheerleader. A good mentor will share insights into their success for you. This is not always a willing venture for many in the MLM business, but taking time to locate a good leader willing to walk beside you, and literally coach you to success, is worth its weight in gold.

5.  Use Your USP To Create A Strategy

All good MLM leaders need to know their craft. After all, you are a sales representative at the foundation. While much of today’s recruiting is a bit more marketing-focused than hard-core sales, building your own empire of tools and marketing collateral will ensure a more solid lift-off. Without burying yourself in development of the plan, take time to collect your thoughts into a unique strategy that compliments your USP.

6.  Take Time To Develop Your Program

All that we have discussed does take time. How much depends on what you have to invest. The push is to get started fast, but without proper preparation you’ll be selling blind. After all, people are buying you not just the business or product. In this day and age, actually building the websites, correspondence and marketing into a lead-generating empire is a practice of patience.

With a good coach behind you, you can stay on schedule and continue to broaden your horizons. A good leader comes up with new ideas, a follower implements the ideas of others. Capitalize on what you’ve learned in esocializing with leaders, and launch your business into its own empire.

7.  Place Your Network Into An Intimate Setting

The mechanics of your business should center on the best ways to capitalize on the Internet’s amazing networking potential. But, you can’t remain old school in your thinking if you want to remain a leader and be recognized as one in your company (or among other leaders). Start with where you are strong, such as with a Gmail or Facebook list.

Take this list and transition it into a more intimate setting. The ideas for building your network are the foundation for your business program ultimately working. There are many ways to do this, and as we continue to discuss such outlets as social media, you’ll have the opportunity to add to your research for your USP.
